There's probably a sex offender in every neighborhood. The person is probably a family member or trusted adult. The person may be a step-father, mother, uncle, woman neighbor, community leader or someone's brother.
The offender may start by tickling or back massage. The child will most likely be violated in his or her own home or somewhere close to home.
It is estimated that 1/4 to 1/2 of all children will be violated before their 18th birthday. It may've happened to you. You may think it won't happen to your children, or that whoever did it to you, wouldn't violate someone else. Why would we trust a person who committed a crime, to not violate again or violate in THAT way?
If stranger safety programs worked, why is it estimated that 1 million children a year will become victims? Kids may not realize what is happening until it's too late...they may not have been instructed how to protect themselves just because they're tickled or touched. They might not realize that nice people may do bad things, sometimes. By the time the offender touches them where they wear bathing suits, it might be too late to escape victimization. Why should kids be punished because they didn't know predator games?
The book was written by a children's counselor, teacher and government worker assigned to assess convicted sex offenders.
